About the Guitars
Pablo's guitars are built following traditional Spanish methods of construction.
He learnt these methods over the years and has developed them
in his own personal way.
Pablo has worked with classical and flamenco guitars of well
known makers who have created history. The makers who have
influenced Pablo the most are Antonio de Torres, Santos Hernandez,
Marcelo
Barbero, Reyes and Hauser. Having studied their work has enabled
him to incorporate some of their methods into his own guitars.
These flamenco guitars are built using German Spruce and Cyprus
from Mediterranean regions, mainly Spain and Italy. They
have a bright and powerful sound, as well as being clear
and responsive.
Pablo also makes flamenco guitars using rosewood. The early
Gypsy flamenco players were very superstitious thinking that
playing
a 'flamenca negra' (black flamenco) would bring them bad
luck. Nowadays we can all appreciate the qualities that rosewood
can bring to the flamenco guitar.
A greater variety of woods are used for the construction
of the classical guitars. He makes the tops from German spruce
or cedar.
The back and sides can be made using timber selected not
only
for their musical qualities, but also for their beauty. Usual
examples are Brazilian Rosewood, Indian Rosewood, Birdseye
Maple, Curly Maple, Figured Walnut and Cocobolo. To achieve
the highest
standards, Pablo personally selects all the woods for their
individual qualities. Once in his workshop, they are stored
to season to
the optimum level to be used only when the wood is ready.
Pablo likes finishing his guitars in French polish, especially
classical guitars as this enhances the sound and the beauty
of the wood. For those in need of a more resistant finish
he also
offers polyurethane which is a high gloss finish, very tough
and easy to maintain.
